The Big Idea: Making Mars the New Earth

The possibility of terraforming and colonizing Mars is the idea which drove me into the field of astrophysics. This graphic is a great primer on the general ideas. The science behind them is tremendous and expensive, something we will be lucky to solve in our lifetimes, even if we had immediate and generous funding. Still, going to Mars is a scientific imperative and nowhere near outside the realms of possibility. It’s undeniable that if the human race survives, Mars will be a home for some of us.

Agreed. I just want to live long enough to at least witness the beginning of this process.
